Investor Appeals to Cambodia Justice Ministry Over YY Capital Dispute
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — An investor in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has submitted formal letters to Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice, seeking government intervention in a dispute involving the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei. The investor alleges serious misconduct, including breaches of trust, embezzlement, and financial fraud.
The letters claim that Yamada, a Japanese national and chairman of the board, manipulated business transactions in ways that caused the investor financial harm. Among the allegations are inflated property purchase prices in Cambodia, which preliminary findings suggest may have resulted in the misappropriation of around $4 million for personal gain and for others involved.
According to the investor, the scheme involved creating fictitious business transactions, including loan arrangements exceeding $7 million. The letters also allege document forgery and significant cash diversions carried out through shell companies linked to Yamada and alleged accomplices. Some funds were reportedly moved to an overseas account in the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.
The letters further allege that Yamada set up shell companies in Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Cambodia using nominees, while retaining direct control over the associated bank accounts and financial operations.
In Cambodia, prosecutors have reportedly filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada and others. Certain assets and bank accounts have been frozen under court orders, while additional investigations continue. The letters also mention that authorities in multiple countries—including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States—are examining allegations ranging from embezzlement and document forgery to breach of trust and money laundering.
The investor urges Cambodian authorities and courts to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, warning that suspects might otherwise try to evade accountability, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
No immediate comment was available from Yamada or YY Capital Partners regarding the allegations.
